Maria is a writer and garden designer. Her nonfiction book Hold Me Tight and Tango Me Home is forthcoming on Algonquin Books in February 2010 and Rizzoli is publishing her book on edible gardening for small spaces titled A Little Earth in spring of 2010. She lives on a houseboat in Sausalito where she dances tango on her rooftop and tries to grow many different types of edible plants despite the heavy winds and salt water sprays.

Ariana is a journalist and organic farmer and gardener who writes about food and agriculture for various publications including City Dirt and The Pt. Reyes Light newspaper. She has also worked as a television and documentary film producer for over a decade, including stints at PBS Frontline and Frontline World, ABC News in New York and several independent production companies. She has a Masters degree in Journalism from UC Berkeley and a certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at UC Santa Cruz. She currently works at KQED in San Francisco and experiments with her urban market-garden in Oakland, CA.
