What's On Your Plate?

What's on Your Plate is a witty and provocative documentary about kids and food politics. Filmed over the course of one year, the film follows two eleven-year-old African-American city kids as they explore their place in the food chain. Sadie and Safiyah take a close look at the food systems in New York City and surrounding areas. The girls formulate sophisticated and compassionate opinions about urban sustainability, and by doing so inspire hope and active engagement in others.

The CSA

The What's On Your Plate team has met and profiled incredible people doing outstanding work to create a better food system. Among these is the wonderful Angel Family! They live in Brooklyn and farm in Goshen, NY, where they grow delicious, organic, healthy vegetables to sell at markets all around New York City.

While filming, Sadie and Safiyah, the narrator's made it one of their goals to help start a CSA with the Angels.

With the help of Just Food, WOYP and the Angel Family are starting that CSA now! First delivery is Tuesday, June 23rd. Please go to tnscsa.wordpress.com for sign up information and agreement form.

CSA= Community Supported Agriculture, and is a great way for families to get fresh veggies delivered each week for pick-up, and support farmers at the same time.

CSA members pay for a "share" upfront, and then the Angel Family will bring delicious produce from their farm each week for folks to pick up at the Neighborhood School in Manhattan. They grow tomatoes, corn, lettuce, herbs, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, beets, and lots more. Yum!

The What's On Your Plate? team is so glad to be able to have this partnership with Angel Family Farm. If you are in NYC, please consider signing up! Otherwise, join a CSA near you. And tell your friends about it! Support local farmers!
