The design of the spa Cavallo Point Lodge in the Marin Headlands has a Japanese meets Arts and Crafts feel to it, with a clean, simple style and great use of light and the natural surroundings.

This area is at the entrance. I'm not sure if I've ever sat on one, so I can't vouch for their comfort, but I love this style of stool.

The interior is also serene and modern but gets its flair from plants and cut flowers. Again, the exterior views are part of the experience, and it feels as if the rooms were designed around them.

After spa treatments, clients can go outside and relax under the trees near a fire pit, or at the heated plunge pool.

The outdoor area opens up to the Marin Headlands, which are just magical. The California poppies are in bloom and you can smell the redwood trees and Pacific Ocean.

I love that they've treated this tree like it's a work of art.
